As a physiotherapist, I have mentioned time and again that prevention is always better than cure.
But there are some injuries and muscle pain where you have no role to play but seek out a physiotherapist who will be able to relieve the pain and cure you of the ailment.
In our busy and hectic life, it often happens that we develop some pains or injuries unknowingly and by the time the pain gets prominent a few days may have passed in between. So it is best to visit a doctor immediately instead of waiting for the pain to increase or wishing it to go away.
Trust me it does not happen like this. We need to take care of ourselves and follow all the exercises suggested by the doctor and pop any medicine if recommended. Don’t even think for once that you can pop a pain killer without visiting the doctor at all and you will get alright. The pain killer will vanish the pain momentarily but you will not be cured. In fact there are so many side effects of pain killers that it is best to avoid them at all costs.
The Grid foam roller is something that’s turned out to be a great health investment for me and I usually don’t leave the house without it.
Foam Rolling or Body Rolling is a form of self-massage used by fitness enthusiasts, athletes and therapists to relax or “release” tight muscles. This form of massage is designed to increase elasticity of connective tissue therefore relaxing the muscles allowing them to respond more efficiently and effectively during activity.
Don’t avoid your pain otherwise there are high chances that it will get worse. Let your physiotherapist work wonders with you.
Seven reasons to see your physiotherapist after an injury:
1. Prevention Is Better Than Cure
As I have already mentioned, prevention is thousand times better than cure but what if you have already injured yourself?
The moment you detect a pain fix an appointment with your therapist. Don’t take it lightly. Tell your therapist the exact nature of your pain and where exactly it’s hurting so that he can treat you properly. Until and unless you are clear about what is bothering you, the exact nature of the pain your therapist will be clueless and confused. So help him so that he can help you out. Let it be a two way process.
Here’s a guide explaining exactly what to expect from your physical therapy visit.
2. Don’t Wait For The Pain To Subside
We all are busy but this is no way equates with your reason that you can live with your pain. In fact don’t wait to see whether the pain increases or whether it subsides over a period of time. Your recovery has got nothing to do with whether the pain is there or not. We often mistake situations and in the process hurt ourselves more. So visit your doctor immediately to get healed properly and for a long time to come.
3. Your Health Is Your Wealth
How many times have you heard this adage? Countless times over the years? Well it’s the truth. You can practically do anything if you are fit and active but the moment you’re unwell your productivity hampers. In fact that’s the beginning of a long term problem. Don’t let this happen to you. Take stock in your health NOW! A little step is the beginning of a great new journey, so go on and take that step.
4. Overall Health Matters A Lot
Following exercises and eating healthy till the time you get well is not the way to a great life. You have to make these elements a regular part of your life. Go for a brisk walk at least once daily. Change your eating habits and incorporate green leafy vegetables and the right portions of protein, carbohydrate, fat and so on.
